From the relative obscurity of Vancouver’s CiTR radio Nardwuar has establishedhimself as one of the finest, most thorough music interviewers out there today.Known affectionately as the Human Serviette, he has interviewed some of thebiggest names in music, including Snoop Dogg, Tyler the Creator and SabrinaCarpenter, and Nike SB have given him his flowers with a collaborative DunkLow Pro.
Known for his rigorous research which more often than not stuns his subjectsinto silence, mouth slightly ajar; his unparalleled ability to remain unflusteredin situations where most would crumble (*cough* Blur *cough*); and hisfamously eccentric sartorial choices, Nardwuar’s Dunk Low Pro takes leadfrom the latter, draping the upper of the shoe in the tartan pattern from hisiconic Tam o' Shanter, gifted by his late mother, onto Nike SB’s most iconic silhouette.
The red, green, blue, and yellow plaid upper is unapologetic, much like theman himself, divided by a black nubuck Swoosh on the sidewall, sitting incontrast to the loudness around it. Following the Swoosh, a matching wovenblack tongue and rubber midsole; the latter of which sits on top of asemitranslucent outsole which reveals Nardwuar’s famous catchphrase: Dootdoola doot doo... on one shoe, with the expected retort of Doot doo on theother, with the phrase flipped on the black nubuck heel tabs.
Underfoot, cobranded details decorate the insole for an extra touch ofNardwuar’s personality. Nike SB’s usual skate-ready tech is all there, includingAir Zoom Unit for impact protection, the foam midsole for a lightweight,responsive cushioning, and the rubber outsole with classic pivot circle for theaddition of durable traction and heritage style. The crowning detail, though,the red and blue pom-pom from his tammie sits boldly as a lace adornment oneach shoe; but if this ain’t your cup of tea (incidentally, Nardwuar’s tea ofchoice: Earl Grey) no need to worry, it comes off with a cheeky little snapfastener.
Joining the black laces which come as standard, extra laces in red, blue, green,and yellow mirror the individual threads that make up the tartan, to round offa perfect homage to the legend that is Nardwuar. And remember... keep onrockin’ in the free world. Doot doo!
