The tide has come in on another bodacious Dunk collaboration and this time Elissa Steamer’s Gnarhunters are back to drop in on the Nike SB party wave; previously hooking up on a Blazer Mid in 2019, they renew their communion in 2022 for a wetsuit-inspired colourway that proves they’re as radical a duo as Johnny Utah and Boddhisattva.
The body of the shoe pops up on a seafoam white outsole and is crafted with soft, towel-like terrycloth barrelled by padded neoprene panelling, all in a sleek wetsuit black; the towelling duck dives into the shoe, keeping a slimmed-down tongue surfing between the side panels and your sandy toes.
Smacking the lip of the tongue and at the crest of the heel, the Gnarhunters Dunk features heat transferred vinyl detailing often used in wetsuit production... Wapow! The aesthetic is maxed out with a perfect set of interchangeable Velcro Swooshes (a style first popularised with 2018’s Diamond Dunk) on either side of the shoe, built with a rugged canvas and defined by ingrained surf wax smudges.
