The latest Dunk based offering from Nike SB is a jaunty ode to Polaroid’s achievements in photography, since the first Polaroid model camera hit shelves in Boston in 1948. The shoes emulate the quintessential Polaroid camera, splicing a black and white upper with a striking trifecta of technicolour swooshes to realise a juxtaposing aesthetic that is sure to catch the eye; removable Nike Zoom Air insoles share the rainbow effect, and the theme is completed with the stitched polaroid logo along the top of the toe box.

The ingenuity here extends beyond the shoe’s complexion; the Dunk has been reinforced with a new construction designed for durability - turning stitching has been implemented throughout the upper to resist griptape abrasion and maintain the dexterity of the shoe. Polaroid suggest “In today’s world, there’s not much time to appreciate what’s in front of us. Everything feels temporary and disposable. Nothing is around long enough to move us. To make us feel connected; to make us feel human — and we won’t stand for that”, and these shoes are definitely built to last.
Accompanying the Polaroid Dunks are 7 pairs of differently coloured laces, allowing for individualistic expression and solidifying ‘imagination’ as being the centric influence behind this collaboration.

With imagination and expression in mind, Nike SB and Polaroid recently offered Brian Anderson and Sarah Meurle the opportunity to visit Barcelona to shoot some polaroids whilst skating around the city. An apropos pairing of individuals given the thematic context of the release, Sarah Meurle is a skateboarder and professional photographer from Sweden; Brian Anderson, having already established himself as a legend within the sphere of skateboarding, reached mainstream attention in 2016 alongside the release of a VICE documentary that saw him recognised as the world’s first openly gay professional skateboarder. Polaroid’s philosophy “We create beautiful tools to capture the meaningful moments in life” certainly rings true with the resulting images from this trip and the exquisite pair of Dunks that Nike SB and Polaroid have united for. Trust us, sneaker freaks, these won’t be around for long so get there while you can.
