CSEF was founded in 2017 by Thomas Barker, focused on providing alternative routes into skateboarding by offering scholarships to skaters who are pursuing higher education. The foundation aims at helping skateboarders further their education regardless of their financial situation or other circumstances, letting them flourish in their chosen field, whilst reshaping tropes and stereotypes of skateboarding itself.
The CSEF Dunk’s commencement starts with a white leather upper inspired by the whiteboards found in classrooms across the world. Contrasting black and grey suede accents are found on the perforated toebox and upper heel, along with a patent leather swoosh. CSEF’s signature yellow and green are found on the lining and heel tab, with the latter hosting mismatch collegiate Nike and CSEF heel tab branding. Underfoot, a tricolour arrangement adorns the outsole and graphic sockliners sit inside.
The homages to academia run plentiful throughout the shoe, with a debossed studious skateboarder illustration, Scantron answer sheet tongue tab on the slimmer tongue, and the shoe graduates with a ceremonial CSEF tassle. To round out the shoe with first-class honours, a skate-away “eraser” pink hides under the whiteboard overlays.
