The Giants began life on the East Coast in New York in 1883, developing a fierce rivalry with cross-town competitors the Brooklyn Dodgers during this period. Both franchises later relocated across the country to California in 1958, setting history as the first Major League Baseball teams to play on the West Coast. Since then, the San Francisco Giants have established themselves as a steadfast fixture in American sports, asserting themselves as one of the oldest and most successful franchises in the MLB and boasting more wins than any team in the history of major US sports. Despite the switch of coasts, the Giants have maintained their classic colours – the iconic black, cream, and orange, a testament to their unwavering longevity in MLB history.
Encapsulating the boundless history of the Giants is no mean feat, but Nike SB win the World Series of salutations for the San Francisco Giants Dunk High, offering a soft Sail upper crafted from silky suede overlays and porous mesh panelling, creating a clean aesthetic and unmatched breathability when on the board or in the ballpark. Meanwhile, the Swoosh curve balls across the field of play in a contrasting, oily black canvas delineated with a vivid orange border, standing out from its creamy base, and is stitched in a virgule style reminiscent of the stitching used on baseballs which can also be found in the Giants’ logo.
Bottom of the inning, the Giants Dunk High features a baseball white midsole standing on a glossy black base, split by a central orange section; a baby pink smear towards the heel of the right shoe is reminiscent of the ‘Bubblegum’ Air Jordan 1, a nod towards the stereotype of baseball players relentlessly chewing gum in the dugout.
